The topic tonight is “Statistics and Market Trends.” Danny Winkler and I will be on the panel.
At JVM, we love this topic b/c we rely so heavily on data! We zealously monitor our total referral numbers, referral sources, loan-locks, total production, total pre-approvals, etc. We also use Broker Metrics to track individual Realtor production, and we use aggregated MLS stats (listings, pendings, etc.) to monitor every region.
We do this to make sure we are always skating to where the puck is going. This is the reality we can’t ignore.
On the macro level, we often ignore prognostications and trends b/c the experts are wrong so often nowadays. The recent presidential election is our oft-used example.
On the psychology front, it is extremely important to not ever let negative statistics get you down. There is an excellent “How I Built This” Podcast with Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran. She had a real estate firm during the worst downturn in NYC’s history; no properties were selling and every Realtor had totally given up. She, however, just kept fighting until she found a way to make millions via auctions. Her story is extremely inspiring – please listen to it.
With respect to YPN, it stands for “Young Professionals Network” but … you don’t have to be “young” to attend (Danny and I will be there after all :). YPN meets every month, and everyone is welcome. There is usually a panel of local “experts” with real estate coach Kitty Cole moderating. It is great for learning, networking and just having a good time.
