need coaching experiences BAD COACHING EXPERIENCE

Years ago, I had a business coach insist that I join the Rotary Club. Nothing against the Rotary Club, but it was not a fit for me and it did not help our business.

The Coach was also egotistical and bombastic, and I did not enjoy his calls. I also didn’t enjoy the network of students b/c I didn’t share their values or business models. Making matters worse, the coach’s advice was often counter-productive b/c he didn’t understand our business model.

WE SWORE OFF COACHING & GOT TOO ISOLATED

We then swore off coaching to cultivate our unique model and our business took off. We then became way too insular and isolated.

B/c our model was successful and b/c we had received so much counter-productive advice, we stopped looking outside for help. And we started to miss opportunities as a result.
Seeing this, Heejin dragged me kicking and screaming into a Master Coaching Program last summer. And… it has been extremely productive.

It is not just the coaching though, it is the network of students that is so helpful. The other students are every bit as successful as I am, and often smarter. Further, they are all exceptionally nice and willing to help.

    WHEN COACHING WORKS

We now get excellent and invaluable feedback in regard to CRMs, technology in general, banking channels, blogs, marketing and best practices overall. We have saved years of trial and error.

So, here is my revised advice on coaching:

    A. Coaching works and is necessary (I now admit).
    B. Make sure the coach has been successful outside of just coaching, and shares your values.
    C. Make sure the network of students is as successful or more successful as you are.
    D. Make sure the network is readily accessible for feedback.
