SalesForce Founder Mark Benioff wrote a great book, “Behind the Cloud.” In that book, he talks about how important it is to maintain very strong relationships with all former employees no matter the circumstances. Even if they go to a competitor, he says, they often end up being either allies or advocates.

He not only treats employees who give notice with the utmost respect, but he even goes so far as to help current employees land jobs with other employers if that is what they want.

I think about that often when I hear about companies immediately ushering employees off their premises as soon as they give notice. Such policies foster unnecessary distrust and resentment.

We follow Mr. Benioff’s advice at JVM of course, and I use that as a segue to very sadly say that tomorrow is Koko’s last day at JVM. Koko is moving to a new residence and job in the City (not to a competitor I might add).

To Koko’s credit she gave us ample notice (despite her new employer’s request that she start right away), and, even more impressive, she has remained an enormously productive team member at JVM right up to her very last day.

Thank you Koko for everything, and we will definitely miss you.
