Yesterday as I was driving back to Walnut Creek from SFO, the primary freeway (US 101) was a parking lot. But fortunately, I had the “Waze” app on my phone, so I was re-routed to the 280 and I cut 25 minutes from my trip.

The Waze app checks traffic volume everywhere (using data from all “Wazers”) and re-routes drivers accordingly. There were something like 12,000 Waze users in my immediate area, according to Waze.

But far more amazing (to me at least) than the Waze App was the number of people stuck on the 101 who did NOT use Waze or a similar app.

Even the simplest technology can save enormous amounts of time, and it is alarming to us when people or businesses do not constantly survey the horizon and embrace new technologies.

The caveat to this of course is too much reliance on technology. We also often see companies that constantly look for technology as a panacea when they really need to change their systems or staff.

And lastly, if you are in sales, technology will never replace the necessity of hard work. We had dinner last night in fact with an extremely successful Realtor who kept repeating that over and over.
