The WSJ had a great article Monday about “Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make.” One woman talked about forgetting to sell; she discussed focusing so much on her current projects and operations that she forgot to prospect for future business. She learned from this, saying: “Sales is the lifeblood of the business. Always sell.”

When Mark Cuban bought the Dallas Mavericks, the first thing the icon of technology did was set up a call center to sell season tickets. He said: “More sales cures all.”

I know Realtors who get so caught up in current transactions that they forget to prospect for future deals.

I know other Realtors who spend far too much time in data analysis.

I know loan officers who get caught up in meetings far too often.

I personally bog myself down in operations and perfecting systems. My staff and I also love to keep all of our ducks in perfect rows (a good thing unless it detracts from selling).

As the wonderful book “To Sell is Human” reminds us, we are all salespeople now. Never forget to sell, sell, sell.
