Self-Awareness Is Key Attribute In Successful People; Practice It
Stephen Dubner (of “Freakonomics” fame) was recently on James Altucher’s podcast discussing self-awareness.
He quoted Angela Duckworth (author of “Grit”) who said that most successful people have an exceptional appetite for self-examination.
To become self-aware, Dubner suggests setting aside an hour every week to examine wins and losses and figure out exactly where you (not anyone else) went right or, more importantly, wrong. Most people do not put enough blame on themselves, or understand their weaknesses.
Alternatively, you can just work in an office that is run by women like I do. And you will hear exactly what you do wrong in no uncertain terms every week :).
I often think that Heejin, Jenna, and Meg from our office, should set up a “self-awareness” consulting company; it definitely works at JVM :).
Anyway – the above is another excellent podcast we recommend, and self-awareness is a necessity – know your weaknesses.
