As most people know, this is Sean Yates’ last day at JVM, as he is leaving for law school at UC Davis on Monday. Sean will be sorely missed for many reasons.

It has been very fun to watch Sean grow and excel in many roles and to note why he does so extremely well. Sean is only 24, and he has already been extremely successful in many endeavors and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Sean will rise to the top of any field he pursues.

Sean is a star not so much b/c of his intrinsic talents but b/c of his very strong values and skills that were clearly imbued in him at a young age. This is a great lesson for all parents.

Sean is always courteous, polite, calm, accountable, and friendly. He is quick to smile and he never complains. He also always takes initiative and takes pains to ensure he does everything thoroughly and correctly. He always offers to help others, he is never afraid of hard work or staying late, and he always does what he promises to do. And finally, he is an excellent writer and communicator in general.

These are values and skills that we know we should all cultivate, but Sean makes sure he practices them consistently and everything falls into place for him.

Most importantly, by practicing these values, Sean is not just extremely successful, but he has earned an extraordinary level of love and respect from all of his friends, family and co-workers. As I mentioned, it is fun to watch.

I think I have learned more from Sean than he has from me. Thank you, Sean, for everything.
