Actually, I didn’t just clean my desk; I threw out almost everything and committed to keeping my desk and office sparse and immaculate. This is a principle we enforce at JVM, and one of the reasons behind our success and ability to perform so consistently.
For years prior to 2002, my desk was a literal pile of papers, folders, files, calculators, pens, sticky notes, and debris. I thought it was amusing, but it definitely weighed me down.
There is a popular book making the Podcast circuit called: “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.” The author is adamant about throwing everything out, about only keeping things that “bring you joy,” and about staying organized all the time.
If you are at all cluttered or disorganized, we highly recommend the book, or at least throwing out a lot of stuff; you won’t miss it – I write from experience.
