January Lead Season & Weather

Hockey in -25 F Weather; Peddling Through Blizzards; Working When It Is Raining Outside 😊

When I was a kid in rural Minnesota, we played hockey at an outdoor rink.

The games were supposed to be called when the temperature dipped below -25 F, but I remember playing anyway on one of the occasions when that happened.

Nobody seemed that concerned too, and my mom was certainly not afraid to drive her Chrysler Town & Country station wagon in the cold weather to pick me up when the game ended.

Similarly, in the 1980s, I pedaled my bicycle across the country and got stuck in a whiteout blizzard going over an 8,000-foot mountain pass in New Mexico.

    I only had a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and a windbreaker, so I got a little chilly… But I obviously survived.

More interestingly, I remember telling my brother about it and he didn’t understand the point, as he had faced worse conditions many times with his various adventures.

Anyway – I could share many more similar stories and I think about them often when I hear about people laying low and even not working because … it is raining outside.

This is not to make light of the people who face legitimate risks. But, for most of us, heavy rain just means slightly longer commutes and having to get slightly wet running in from parking lots.

And, all this is another reminder that “January lead season” is upon us. Many of the agents we work with obviously know this, as they are sending us lots of referrals right now like they do every January – and they will no doubt be busier than ever during spring buying season.

But, I suspect that both loan officers and agents who are riding out the weather will be … less busy. 😊
