We once had a Realtor visit our office who was reluctant to shake hands, who kept his hands under the table, and who made very little eye-contact. He made us nervous and did very little business, needless to say. This is an obvious example of poor body language.

    Many JVM staff-members are exceedingly polite, and they often very properly hold their hands in their laps when seated in social settings. This too is a body-language faux pas, even though our staff members are some of the warmest and friendliest people I have ever known. (It is best to keep your hands on the table at all times, even if it is “bad manners”).

    Vigorous handshakes, irrespective of gender, are also very important.
