The WSJ had this headline today: “Class of 2015 Graduates Summa Cum Lucky.” It is b/c the job market is so much tighter that starting salaries are much higher and jobs are much easier to find.

Hence, if you are someone looking for an assistant, you will need to pay a lot more now than you would have a few years ago. And, if you are an assistant reading this blog, you should ask for a raise :).

At JVM, we only hire congenial, college-educated associates with high GPAs b/c they perform best for us. Google, interestingly, says there is no correlation between education, GPA and performance – but that is at Google.

The current average starting pay for college grads is $48,000. We start associates around $40,000 now for our short training period, but compensation climbs sharply with our generous profit sharing and bonuses.
